Grandad’s Tribute With love from Harry, Sophie, Katie & Tamzin Read by Katie Harry, Sophie, Tamzin and I wanted to share with you some memories of our Grandad and how much of an impact he has had and will continue to have in our lives. Although Harry cannot be here today, Grandad was Harry’s favourite person, so we have prepared a few words to represent his feelings for his Grandad. Grandad would always be the first word Harry shouted as soon as Nan and Grandad got through the door, even pushing people out of the way to get to him. As with all of us, the favourite thing with Harry and Grandad was his bike, he would take Harry on bike rides for hours, and we know that he will deeply miss Grandad. The love our Grandad had for our Nan is something we will admire and cherish for the rest of our lives. Even in Grandad’s last days, Nan would never leave his side, and that pays tribute to the love they had for one another. The thing we loved most about our Grandad, was not how he lit up a room with his smile, or always making us laugh through his sarcasm, it is the love he had for our Nan, and the bond they had over their 60 years of marriage. Getting used to just saying Nan, not Nan and Grandad, is something we will never get used to, and it was not something we ever wanted to get used to. We are proud to have had a Grandad that has had such an impact on everyone’s lives, every life lesson he taught us, we will carry forward with us into the future. Although we will never get to see him sitting in his armchair in the conservatory again, or witness his sense of humour, or get to hear him shout ‘Stenta’ (which was his nickname for our Nan) from the end of the garden again, we will each cherish the memories we have with him forever, and continue to remember and love him. His constant good example always taught us right from wrong, markers for our pathway that will last a lifetime. We are our Grandad’s Garden; we are his legacy. Thank you, Grandad we love you.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
